It started
as a rest day. We had breakfast at the Guest House. It was Chinese breakfast.
But they prepared for us boiled egg and brought sandwich bread specially for
us. They also gave milk. It was special gesture from the guest house management.
The guest house is away from the city, but then only it is possible to have it
in natural surroundings with mountains around guest house.
We left
around 12 noon go see two sightseeing tourist attractions of the Guilin city.
One was Reed Flute Caves and the other was two lakes. We reached Caves fast as
it was very near to the Guest house. We purchased the entry ticket and were
taken in a train to the Cave. The train was using Clog wheel technology to
climb the hill. It was enjoyable to go in the train.
We soon reached
cave as it was quite near to the place where train left us. As soon as we
entered the cave, we realised that we have reached a special place. We saw
multi-coloured structures which were fascinating. Reed Flute cave is also known
as ‘the Palace of Natural Arts’. They are fascinating and are landmark in
Guilin.
It is a
natural limestone cave with multi-coloured lighting. The cave has been one of
Guilin’s most interesting attractions for over 1200 years. It is over 180
million years old.
The cave got
its name from the type of reed growing outside. The cave is filled with large
number of stalactites, stalagmites and other rock formations. There were many
steps to climb and get down. The light was just ok. It resulted in dark areas
in between. It was very tedious to climb those steps for me.
We were very
tired after we came out of the cave. We decided to search a restaurant for lunch
and then return to the Guest house. We took lunch at KFC. We decided to skip
the lakes. After taking late lunch at KFC and coffee at Starbucks, we returned
to guest house.
The dinner
was prepared by our guide. He prepared
only vegetarian dishes with one dish of chicken for us. It was good food to
eat.
We plan to
start at about 7:30am tomorrow.
