After all the planning, preparations and flag offs, the D-day has arrived. 17th May, 2019 we set out to see the world from the eyes of the three generations supported by many, many relatives and friends world over. The official flag off was given by the His Excellency, Indian High Commissioner to Singapore Mr. Jawed Ashraf on 16th May, 2019.
We started at 7 am so that we beat the rush at the Immigrations at Singapore and Malaysia. Some of our family members were present at the early hours to wish us Best of Luck for the journey and give a fitting send off.
We were quick enough to pass through the immigrations and Customs in both the country borders. Customs was required since the Singapore registered car is being technically exported for a short period. We had obtained Carnet which was stamped by the Cusoms. Carnet is a document which helps cars to cross borders. The border clearances at both the borders was swift and we were through the procedures in less than one hour.
It was all highways from Johor Bahru in Malaysia to Butterworth, near Penang. The lush green scenery was enchanting and the roads were very good. Towards the end, it took us 50 minutes to reach last 20 kms. because of the regular evening traffic congestion.
We had good food on the way. The journey was smooth and enjoyable. The Mevin Somerset Apartments at Butterworth was OK. The facilities were minimal. We were longing for a good night sleep before we venture out tomorrow to Krabi in Thailand. We hit the bed quite early.
