Day 5: Bangkok to Chiang Mai

After a rest day, we were all raring to continue our journey from Bangkok. We started from the hotel at 6:25 am. Today the journey is for 715 kms. to Chiang Mai and expected to take about 12 hours.

The road for first 180 kms. was single lane highway. Then we reached the main highway and the journey became very good with lots of scenic beauty. Most of the time we were driving parallel to the sea.

Chiang Mai is the largest city of Northern Thailand. It is capital of Chiang Mai province. It is at an elevation of 310 metres. Chiang Mai means ‘New City’. Chiang Mai city is having near to the Ping River.

Once we reached near to the Chiang Mai city, the evening traffic congestion affected our drive. We reached hotel at 7:10 pm.
Tomorrow would be the day of crossing country border to Laos. We will start early keeping in mind uncertainty about time taken at the borders immigration.
